As the memories of Christmas begin to fade, and the tree has seen its last, it’s time to look to the future, and there’s no better time than New Year to start planning a fresh new look for your home. If you’re considering getting creative, we’re here to help you get one step ahead – we’ve tracked down a couple of industry leaders to give you a sneak peek at the interior design colour trends to look out for in 2015.

marsala pantone color of the year

Across the board the big shades for this year are set to be earthy red and copper. Pantone has revealed its colour of the year as “Marsala”, a colour as rich as it is red. Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman explains that: “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors…Nurturing and fulfilling, Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room – making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home”.

Bold metallics have been popular in interior design for a while now, and 2015 looks to be no exception. Dulux’s colour of the year is the similarly earthy “Copper Blush”, which is both versatile and powerful. It’s “a heart-warming shade with real depth, which creates an easy-to-live-with atmosphere, but with a touch of elegance” according to Rebecca Williamson, Senior Colour and Content Manager for Dulux. Rebecca advises that to enhance the shade you should “keep things ultra-simple with lots of pure white, clay toned neutrals and fleshy pinks both on your walls and through your furnishings, then add surprising shots of coral or fizzy yellow in smaller elements like dip painted stools or table legs. Complete with natural wood, copper and gold accessories.
